Vocational Training

Vocational training or career technical education is basically the art of excelling in a manual or practical activity that may or may not be an academic course. It is specific of a particular trade and generally includes all the traditional topics. It is an activity which seeks active participation from the learner. It is even often called technical education as one has to skillfully apply the knowledge in one's daily life. Vocational courses actually enhance your academic degree quality. Vocational training can be practiced at the secondary and higher secondary level. The vocational courses communicate with an apprenticeship system.

The vocational degrees are partial academic credits and act as a support for higher studies. Anyhow the definition of higher education does not include these vocational courses. It simply provides certain amount of recognition before going in for any professional course. The concept of vocational training has been in the picture since long and till the recent past, it was not that very acclaimed. The people use to practice only a few trades and hence the training was imparted for the same crafts.

The automobile mechanics, welding and carpentry were the major trades and vocational training never went beyond these fields. It was considered to be menial and was believed to be practiced by the lower classes of the society. But today, vocational training has been widely accepted. The requirement of skilful and proficient labor force has made vocational training an important aspect of today's life. The social stigmas have almost vanished and the people have accepted the idea of vocational training in totality.

The public and the private sectors are investing a considerable amount of amount in the skilled labor industry and hence the requirement of vocational training centers has gained impetus. The organizations imparting vocational training are generally non-profit institutions and are funded by public sectors or government. At the higher secondary level, the community and state colleges generally offer vocational training programs.

Conclusion

Vocational training is a must and should rather become compulsory with the other normal courses as it provides the learner with practical knowledge of the theoretical concepts he/she studies. In the modern day scenario, even vocational courses are being run in the field of retail, tourism, funeral, computers and cosmetics etc. The cottage industries are blooming and hence vocational training has become an inevitable part of this society.
